About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Managing Director, Networks, the Director, Engineering and Operations provides overall departmental leadership, direction and support to a team of professionals engaged in the safe and efficient operations, maintenance, design and construction of the Oshawa Power electrical distribution and subtransimssion systems. In this role, you will lead and manage the Engineering and Operations teams, which includes 3 direct and 32 indirect reports.
What you will do
- Provide strategic advice to the Managing Director; ensure company policy, process and procedures are implemented, communicated and adhered to;
- Oversee, mentor, coach, provide direction and strong leadership to create and maintain a positive work culture while building an engaged and energetic team;
- Develop, monitor and execute the company’s capital, operating and maintenance budgets; strive for project management and operational excellence while delivering the company’s services in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner;
- Promote a safety centric work culture; monitor, enforce and ensure adherence to all rules, regulations, codes, standard operating procedures and safe work practices;
- Direct, develop and execute the company’s distribution system plan and assist in the cost of service application while maintaining full compliance with the all OEB targets and regulations;
- Collaborate company wide to ensure efficient utilization of Oshawa Power technical, trades, design, engineering and support teams to provide shared services in order to optimize efforts and costs within all companies;
- Oversee the modernization of company processes and transform the business through the adoption of new technology, ideas and overall process re-engineering to support and improve overall construction, maintenance, design and operational efficiency;
- Direct the annual and ongoing operations, maintenance and construction of the electrical distribution and sub-transmission systems; establish, verify and prioritize timelines, work objectives, and resource requirements;
- Oversee and direct the efficient and compliant engineering design of the electrical distribution and sub-transmission system, ensuring industry standards, regulations and overall quality are met on all capital, residential, commercial and industrial design projects;
- Prioritize customer service; focus departmental efforts on meeting and exceeding service delivery targets; advance customer engagement initiatives and communication efforts through company wide collaboration;
- Prepare and provide departmental operational reports to the Managing Director; present or report to the Executive Team as required;
- Maintain positive working relationships with all industry and municipal stakeholders and shareholders; participate and represent the organization on committees and working groups as required;
- Other duties as assigned.
What you have to offer
Academic and professional qualifications:
- Must have a relevant trades certificate and/or professional engineering (P.Eng.) designation;
- Possess education in technical and business subjects; completion of post-secondary diploma or degree program;
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years professional experience required in the areas of electrical construction, maintenance, operations, engineering, design and project management;
Skills and Competencies:
- Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience directly related to electrical power distribution, operations, maintenance, construction and design;
- Exceptional business acumen combined with a clear understanding of the regulations and technical requirements of the electrical utility sector;
- Strong aptitude for decision making, problem solving, and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner
- Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of all applicable safety and industry rules, regulations, codes and standards, including, but not limited to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), TSSA, ESA, IESO, CEA and OEB;
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor and develop;
- Results-oriented professional; task and project focused;
- Proven experience in standardization, continuous improvement, and management by objectives;
- Strong leadership aptitude; decisive; superior interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills; excellent listener and motivator with the ability to present well and influence others;
- Ability to recognize and deal with sensitive issues in a discreet and professional manner;
- Valid Class G Driver’s License in good standing.
